Model Poses

lie_down_manikinSome photographers might find it very difficult to properly direct a model for great poses that will enhance the model's presentation, showing his/her best face and figure, and most importantly convey the photographer's message. Here are some pose examples which can be really handy when you're shooting in a studio/outdoor with your models.

Color Calibration Chart

jji-colorchartI created this color chart for my studio use. I have it printed in many different sizes for use with various models and items I'm photographing. It helps to have a real world "known" color to compare and use in your digital darkroom.

Lighting Elements

000-setup

This was put together for a friend to help her understand lighting and the effects of the different strobes and lighting elements. I took shots with the different lights on/off to show the effects of each and its influence on the others as well.

This was a very basic setup, but worked well to help her understand how to light people in her studio efforts.

Out Of Bounds (OOB) Tutorial

oobtutorialA Quick how-to on how to create great PopOut images. Great to help a product stand out, or to spice up some older photos.

An OOB Image STANDS out from its background with the help of a frame on a perspective plane cropping the background but leaving the foreground to appear as if its portruding out of or into the frame.

Using Photoshop to Simulate DOF

psdoftutorial

Sometimes we don't have the time to calculate and measure for proper Depth of Field (DOF) on every shot. A good example is the shot above. Testing out AI Servo, I had my daughter running to me while I was shooting away. The DOF was pretty large due to the brightness of the scene so the background was not quite as out of focus as I would have liked. Easily corrected in post processing with PhotoShop, here's how.
