T-Rex 600 Canopy - P-40ish
These pics really make the clear look horrible when infact its very smooth. This is about an hour after clear, still need to cut/polish..
Learned a lesson with AA candies and bleed through. No matter how many coats of doesnt matter what color, you cannot prevent a candy from bleeding up to a white. Even doing an intercoat with AA trans base doesn't help. I needed to 2part clear it to stop the bleed through. This cause issue with the eyes, and they had to be redone post clear.
I wish the finish on the fiberglass gelcoat on these ones was better. You can see the fiberglass patterning in some of the reflection areas. These canopies are thinner than some previous and its really evident in some spots.
Its definitely my best clear job to date... Very very smooth and flat. I'm getting a bit more ballsy with the clear and really putting it down heavier than I thought I could. I've figured out where it starts to run, and just get about 95% to that point, and boy does it settle nice. 60psi really made a difference too, thanks Rick Primeau (Primo) from primocustoms.com for that tip...
Canopy was painted using the DeVilbiss Dagr Airbrush, Iwata Revolution HP-CR and Master G44. Paints used were Auto-Air Basecoat Sealer white, Auto-Air Semi Opaque White, Red, and Black, Auto-Air Pearlized Silver, Auto-Air Transparent Smoke Black, Transparent White and Transparent Red Oxide. Auto-Air Blue Candy. A tiny micro flake was added to the Candy. Clearcoat was U-Pol System 20 (2882) HV European Clear 4:1 through a mini detail gun.
Finally got some pictures of the canopy in flight. These were taken about a month ago at the Arizona Electric Fest. Charlie flying, Brad taking pictures..
And the mouse that inspired it all... (pre-assembly)
